merry christmas & 11 weeks!

so, i got over the flu in about 24 hours and then mom got it. she got over it in about 24 hours and now r has it. ugh. thankfully we're off to carmel for the week on tuesday. mini-vacation!

hope everyone had a wonderful christmas. (parker stayed in her new jammies ALL day!)

on the tenth day of christmas

parker gave to me...the stomach flu.

24+ hours no pukes!

thank god, the flu seems to have left the building. parker is her normal rascally self again. she's eating well today and down for her nap as I type!

so far so good

well as of 3.30 parker is napping peacefully and hasn't thrown up since last night. i've been allowing her only bland foods and water (and of course breastmilk). so far she's had half a container of yogurt and some tomato soup. it seems she had the 72 hour flu!

we ate dinner about an hour and a half ago and everything has stayed down so far. she ate some chicken, rice and cucumber. oh and then a few m&m's in the bathtub!

she's aliiiiiiveee.

so no pukes until this morning again. same thing, she went to sit up and barfed curdled breastmilk all over the bed. yummy. no sign of the runs and she felt well enough to go for a walk. along the way she ate 3/4 of a tangerine, a slice of asian pear, and some goldfish. dear god, let that be the last we see of them.

nothing until about a half hour ago when she puked all over the floor. thankfully she gave us a little warning and we were able to lay down a blanket. i have a call into the on call doc.

the french fries live.

oh yes, they do. they live in p's hair. they live in the bedsheets. they live in the puke towel. the good news is that they had a chance to digest ALL night. no puking until 10AM today and now she seems to be feeling fairly okay.

well everyone...we have moved to what i'd like to call phase two: diarrhea. yes! and in case you're wondering, i don't think any french fries made it through phase one. thank god.

miss p was feeling well enough to go for a walk in her stroller. we went to the new dog park and watched the 'pups' play and then went and chased pigeons. when we got home i made her a banana shake and she had a few sips. she's sleeping peacefully now. no barfing or diarrhea in the past several hours. *fingers crossed*

10 weeks and a very sick boo.

so, i'm 10 weeks today but i'll have to post the picture a little later...

parker is really sick, we're not sure what with. she was in a great mood yesterday, skipped her nap, and fell asleep early, at about 9.30-ish. i didn't want to put her in the car so we stayed at my mom's house. i took parker to bed with me and r stayed up to watch tv. p of course woke up and wanted to play but we stayed in bed and read. by about 12 she was almost asleep again at which point she barfed all over me and the bed. she continued to barf at least once an hour (but generally way more) until about 9 this morning. the poor baby can't even nurse or sip water without throwing up. right now she's munching ice chips and watching 'march of the penguins' for the second time. at least she's smiling and not puking.

***UPDATE 9PM***

the puking has slowed some and p was able to nap for a couple of long stretches today. she woke up when r came home from work with dinner and insisted on eating french fries (yikes!). so far we haven't seen the fries but i'm a little pessimistic at this point!

parker's superpower

so yesterday mom laid down with parker to try to get her to take a nap. when she wouldn't settle down mom got out a meditation cd with sounds of rain, asian bells, etc. parker looked at mom and told her there were angels. there are no voices on this cd. but she says she hears angels. strange huh?

pregnancy superpowers

so here's a couple things that are different than last time: i can smell, everything. and it sucks. if the cats have used the litterbox anytime in the last several hours i can smell it. if r or parker *toots* in their sleep it will wake me up... but, i also have incredible concentration! i have read so many books in the last several weeks. and i know exactly what happened in them.

it's a baby!

i just got back from seeing my fantabulous new ob! he was wonderful (very crunchy) and approved me for a homebirth. i even got to see the baby. very strong heartbeat (160 bpm), measuring right on for my due dates, and SO active. a little wiggler... i'm thrilled! i'll see him again in three months just to catch up; in the meantime i'll be seeing rosanna.

nine weeks!

18% of my pregnancy has passed! only 217-ish days left until the baby is born!

dum de dum dum dum

sorry there haven't been many posts. g-ma is in the hospital still and will be for another week at least. she had surgery the night before last to drain a bunch of fluid and debris out of her lungs and chest cavity and also to repair a tear in her diaphragm. today she's running a high fever but is doing okay. anyway, keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

meanwhile i'm still gestating. the crown to rump length (top of head to butt) of the baby is almost an inch this week or about pinto bean sized. my sense of smell is very heightened this time around, which sucks since not much sounds good to eat anyways. i have an appointment with a homebirth-friendly obstetrician (they DO exist, but there aren't many) next tuesday for a general consultation. that way if anything goes wrong later in pregnancy, anything that rosanna feels makes me not capable of having a homebirth, i will see him and deliver at stanford instead. i'm excited and hopeful that maybe we'll be able to hear the heartbeat!

people are jerks.

today i had my first encounter with the other side. mom, parker and i went up to stanford to visit my grandma jacquie who is in the hospital (more on that later). we all visited for a while and when p became cranky around her usual nap-time, I took her out to the waiting room to nurse her to sleep. (there was no room in my gram's hospital room.) i sit and nurse her for about 15 minutes until i realize that two women (about 30) are talking about me, and staring, completely disgusted, not 10 feet away. one of them makes eye contact with me and then looks at her friend and says "i wouldn't even do that in front of my family or friends." the other replies, "my breastfeeding SIL has the decency to take the baby to the car to feed it." "that's just gross." and on and on... then they proceed to get an older man and woman involved and some guy who i suppose was a brother or friend. the five of them sat there and talked about me for 10 minutes until i couldn't take it anymore. i flushed and barely made it out of the room before I started crying. of course now i'm kicking myself for not saying all the things i have prepared to say in this very situation, since day one... BREASTS ARE FOR NURSING; GET OVER IT!

ahhh.

better rested is all around better. anyway. we had the first appointment yesterday and it was so nice, so incredibly relaxed. rosanna's office is also her home and feels so much more inviting than a sterile doc's office. she's set up to take blood and urine and whatever else needs to be done but most of the meeting is done in the living room. she brought out a giant basket of toys for parker which made the whole thing so much more relaxed for me. in other words, parker wasn't freaked about the "doctor" and clinging to me like a spider monkey the whole time. speaking of time, the appointment lasted almost an hour and a half! it was wonderful. i got to ask and answer all the questions i needed to without feeling pressured that there was someone in the waiting room coming in after me! the whole thing was just so well-rounded, focused on all aspects of pregnancy: physical, emotional and spiritual. we see her again in four weeks, right after christmas.

we also went to the los gatos christmas tree lighting yesterday. parker and maddie had a blast playing in the studio together!

free money's good, right?

i got a letter in the mail today from revenue recovery services of temecula california saying that i'm owed $247.29 by santa clara university. i have to give them $22 but that's still $225.29 which is nice. i checked the company out on the better business bureau's website and they have an "A" rating, which is excellent. should i do it?

tomorrow is my first appointment with the midwife. i'll be posting right after we get home! yay!
