sun, snails, and sabina

we've had a busy few days! yesterday r and i took miss p to the boardwalk where she was a maniac for the rides. she wanted to go on all the big rides but of course is way too short. of course i could only go on the ferris wheel and merry-go-round but consoled myself with a corndog and a carmel apple!

yesterday was also my grandma jacquie's birthday and we went out to an elegant french restaurant to celebrate. parker ordered snails when the waiter came by and proceeded to eat every last one in under 5 minutes. the child has a more adult palate than most adults i know!

(clearly thrilled to have her picture taken.)

today parker had to have her school entrance physical so she can start summer school next week (just a three week program, 2 days a week). this was her first time seeing our new ped (sabina) (other than during the interview) and she did wonderfully! i LOVE this doctor. she didn't push parker any further than she was comfortable. for example, parker was scared to stand on the scale so sabina asked me if i'd weighed her recently. when i told her "yes, she weighs between 24 and 25 pounds" she said: "good enough for me!" and that was how the whole appointment went. she's very supportive of our decision to stop vaccines and is the most honest, patient, and calming practitioner that i've ever met. good for parker, good for me! miss p was so proud of herself for not crying at the appointment (first time EVER) and said "i get to go to school now mama!"

(she was rewarded with a chocolate chip cookie, which she enjoyed immensely.)

mr. baby must be going through a major growth spurt or something because i'm looking bigger and bigger every day. he's definately running out of room to flip and roll.

33 weeks...holy heartburn batman!

mr. baby is weighing in at about 4.4 pounds and measures 19.4ish inches from head to toe. he's in the head down position but still flips a lot from side to side, especially when i go swimming. he's a pokey little thing like parker was, all elbows, knees and heels! i've gained about 30 pounds and have between 5 (holymotherofgod) and 9 weeks left! at this point i'm hoping it's just 5 or 6!

(yes, i got my hair chopped!)

as r says, my stomach is in my throat and it's causing terrible heartburn. even after i eat things like toast or yogurt. also, i can't lay on my back anymore because it makes my legs fall asleep. other than that, i'm feeling pretty okay!

go ahead, choke.

r or i could potentially save you! after two nights of classes through the red cross i know how to save an infant or child from a variety of different breathing/choking disasters! but really, i feel a lot better knowing that i'd have a clue as to what to do in an emergency.

32 weeks

first, what the heck is up with the weather this weekend? it has been soooo nice for the last few weeks and now it's *gasp* raining? i will admit that the cooler weather made the downtown street fair a lot more enjoyable yesterday but still, i wanna go swimming!

mr. baby: almost 4 pounds (though i suspect a little less based on rosanna's long/skinny asessment!) and getting close to 19 inches in length. i'm starting to feel a little cumbersome and my face and ankles are getting swollen (my cankles i should say (calf+ankle=cankle)). bummer. but we have so much going on in the next few weeks that i'm hoping i won't even notice my discomfort!

bad bad electrician man

well, i didn't think i'd have something to complain about so soon. lucky you! yesterday an electrician came out from citywide electric (licence #737583 in case you would like the avoid them in the future) to install an outlet in our master bathroom. electrician guy quotes us $295, we agree to the fee, he begins to work. the whole job takes him less than 30 minutes. he asks me to try out the plug and i notice that he's installed a brown outlet and cover. the walls are white. all the other outlets are white.

i ask him: "is it hard to change it to white?"
electrician guy: "yes, you should have told me you wanted white. the wires are hot."
me: "you should have asked me. i assumed you would see that all the other ones are white." (i also assumed he would have turned off the f-ing power while he was doing the install. wrong on two points!)
electrician guy: "no one is going to see it anyway."
me: "i am."

at this point electrician guy storms out to his truck to "check" for one. meanwhile i get r and tell him what's happened. he agrees that brown is unacceptable. electrician guy comes back with a white cover: "this is all i have."

r: "how long will it take you to go to home depot and buy a white outlet?"

electrician guy storms out again and comes back having miraculously found a white outlet in the truck. he replaces the brown stuff with white. we discover later that he's done a shitty job; the outlet is crooked and he's cut the hole too big. r calls citywide and speaks with three supervisors (who are all jerks to him) before they agree to send someone else out to fix it. argh! *bangs head*

in better news: we saw rosanna today and our favorite doula, treesa. mr. baby is still head down, measuring right on and seems to be rather long and skinny like parker was/is. i have a little swelling in my ankles but rosanna thinks a little nettle tea will take care of that. my homebirth kit is just about completed; all i need to get is a tarp to put under the birth pool, should i choose to have a water birth. i can't believe there's going to be an actual baby here soon. and i can't believe he's going to be born right here in this very room! i'm so excited!

how about some complaining!

it's been a while since i went on a big ol' negative rant about anything...i kind of miss it actually!

#1: i get migraines. and they suck. i get these crazy flashy lights off in the right side of my peripheral vision that makes it hard for me to see. then my left eyeball starts hurting and the pain radiates on the left side until it reaches the back of my head. and then i start to feel like barfing. i've had four since we got back from yosemite. i had never had one before that.

#2: teenage boys lack much needed social skills. r, parker and i were down at the pool the other evening. r & p are in the pool. somehow i wind up in the hot tub with three very inept 17-19 year old boys. one looks at me and says: "so you're pregnant?" me: "um, yes." (no dickwad, i always look like this). him: "who's the father?" me: "my husband." who's the father? are you kidding me!? what kind of retard asks that question???

#3: car rental places rip you off. okay. so we're going to seattle for my cousin's wedding and slug-fest this summer. we need to rent a mini van. i know that it will be more expensive than a car and that's fine. i call hertz. with my aaa discount and tax it's going to be $553 dollars. wonderful. fine. then the lady tells me the seattle area has a bunch of surcharges. okay, how much? the new total is $764.49! over $200 frickin' dollars worth of surcharges! and, to top it all off, i can't even rent the car myself because i'm not 25. i can die for my country, smoke, drink, dance naked for money, get married and bear children but i simply cannot rent a ford minivan!

okay. i'll be back with more later.

31 weeks & happy mother's day

whew. we had a wonderful day up at my grandparent's house but i'm too tired to post about it so the pic will have to do for tonight! mr. baby is 3.5ish pounds and as far as i can tell has 6 to 8 legs.

miss p says funny stuff...

as the garbage truck drives by: "daddy, i wanna see the garbage drunk."

after my dad asks where she puts all that food: "in my mouth."

when i asked her to please move out of my way: "i'm working here!"

after asking her to do just about anything: "fine!" or "no way jose!"

miss p has a slight sunburn on her chest and neck. my mom offers to go outside and cut a piece of aloe for her. upon seeing the knife parker grabs her throat and says, shocked: "grammie, don't cut my neck!"

30 *freakin'* weeks

mr. baby is about 3 pounds and 17 inches in total length. growth during the next month is crazy fast for both of us. ok. whew. the baby could potentially be here in 8 weeks (or 12). we went and bought cloth diapers and some basic layette stuff and actually don't need much of anything for the first several months. my sling came and i LOVE it. i tried one of parker's baby dolls in it and it seems like it fits perfectly. we're getting so excited to meet this little guy. parker has started to practice diapering and holding her baby and i think she's going to be the best big sister.

some stupid guy at the farmer's market told me we're too young to have kids. *pfft* thanks.

one year bloggin'

so, this is the one year anniversary of this blog. crazy huh? bet it seems like about 10 years to you readers but it went really fast for me.

anyway, we saw rosanna today and everything was groovy with mr. baby. i'm still measuring right on track for 30 weeks and he appears to be head down which is excellent news. she gave me a list of supplies that i need to collect before the birth and we've moved to an every two week schedule. i can't believe it.

*admire*admire*admire*

AND i found the coolest baby shirt site: CHECK IT OUT! oh, they sell hilarous adult shirts too.

small?

people keep telling me i look small for gestational age. random strangers and people i know too. you think it looks small? fine. you carry it for a while. i think i look just precisely 6.5 months pregnant, thankyouverymuch! ;0)
